Thru

Today I am launching my project, tentatively titled "Thru."

I was asked by the Orland Park Library to create an art installation in their large display case/window in the foyer for the months of July and August. It is about 6 feet tall x 23 feet wide x 16 inches deep. My idea for the installation is to fill the entire window with tubes. I hope that this will create hundreds of points of view to look outside and into the library, create intriguing shadows and light on the library walls, and transform the window into something new, kind of eerie and possibly magical.

If you would like to help collect tubes, here are some examples of what I am looking for, though I am sure there are more tubes and tube-like things out there:

Paper towel
Toilet paper
Ribbon spools
Masking tape and scotch tape rolls
Carpet rolls
Aluminum foil and saran wrap tubes
Building forms (for concrete)
Mailing tubes
Coffee cans with both ends removed
Oatmeal canisters

If you want to be a collector, please e-mail me directly and I will put you on a list. I will then coordinate drop-offs, pick-ups, and give you more details. The photos are a small mock up in a window in my studio. 4.5 square feet down, 139 square feet to go!

I will attempt to keep updates on this blog for your enjoyment and my motivation.

Sincere thanks,

Stacza Lipinski
